Haiti: Support for victims

The earthquake that hit Haiti was a natural disaster of unprecedented scale.

The Workers Force union wants to share his immense emotion and sends a message of support to victims, their relatives and all the people of Haiti.

The quake could be over 100,000 deaths. He hit a population that a large majority live below the poverty level in decades. The earthquake
that hit Haiti Tuesday was probably tens of thousands dead. According to the authorities of the country, the toll could surpass the 100,000 deaths, or about 1% of the population, the earthquake that hit the capital Port-au-Prince and its environs, an area crowded.

If the devastating effects of this catastrophe are the results of an unfavorable geographical location - Haiti is located on a fault sensitive to earthquakes - they are also because the economy was already on its knees.

Force Workers Confederation, which maintains links with trade unionists in Haiti, was recalled on Thursday in a statement: "This disaster has hit a population almost neglected in the context of globalization of the economy for many years." And FOR recalled, "Haiti has a human development index of 0.53 (when the OECD countries is 0.92 and that of the least developed countries of 0.49) and life expectancy at birth of 59.5 years.

Created by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Human Development Index measures the average quality of life of the population of a country.

It takes into account life expectancy at birth (longevity), access to clean water, health care, education, healthy food, decent housing ...

Nearly 80% of the population lives well below the poverty line of two dollars per day. And more than half (54%) is immersed in the most extreme poverty (less than one dollar per day, 0.70 euros). Making it one of the poorest states in the world.

Lacking resources, the population will find it very difficult to recover. Since Tuesday, international aid flowing to meet the emergency.
